Phantom Baby

Since having Joslyn, both Patrick and I have woken up thinking that she is in our bed with us. We wake up and start feeling around to find her in all the bedding and when we can't we freak out a little, until we realize that she is in her crib, perfectly fine.

What is interesting about this, is that we have never once let her sleep in our bed. Not even during the day. Sure we will nap together on the couch, (don't tell our pediatrician) but never in the bed.

So why then do we wake up thinking she is there with us? Its probably just the sleep deprivation.

Tagged...

Picture tag.

Here are the directions:
Open up the 6th picture folder on your computer.
(I had to do a second 6th folder, I am a picture organizing freak)
Post the 6th picture in the folder and tell the story of it.
Then tag 6 of your friends.

This is a picture of Patrick and I on our wedding day, April 18, 2008. We are walking down the stairs at the front entrance of the Mesa Temple after being sealed for time and all eternity. One of the best days of my life.

I tag.... Whoever wants to do this.

Hippos

When Patrick and I were dating he told me that in Chile they call the hiccups hippos. Ever since, we have been refering to the hiccups as such.

Well, it is starting to get a little crowded in our apartment with all the hippos Joslyn keeps bringing in. She gets the hippos at least three times a day. Pretty soon, there won't be any room for the three of us to live. Good thing we are moving into a bigger place.

Counseling

Patrick is a little concerned about Joslyn. He has informed me that he thinks she will need counseling. He believes this because she makes "animal noises".

Apparently, she isn't sure whether she is a puppy, a piggy, a sheep or a human. She growls like a puppy, snorts like a pig, and baas like a sheep. (Not to mention her hungry hippo eating habits.) She is uber talented!

Patrick is just concerned that she will get confused and need counseling. I assured him that if she needs counseling later in life it won't be from making animal noises. :)

Eyes Wide Open

I am beginning to think that Joslyn has no idea that her eyes actually close. She will be so exhausted, you can see how tired she is all over her face, and yet she refuses to close her eyes! It makes no sense to me! She is so stubborn when it comes to going to sleep.

I guess she thinks that if she goes to sleep she will miss something exciting. What she hasn't figured out yet is that our house is very boring! Her dreams would be so much more entertaining. I try and try to explain this to her, but she just doesn't get it. Hopefully someday.

At least, she has stopped crying the whole time she is awake though. I hope that didn't just jinx myself.

Happy Joslyn

Joslyn is learning to smile. Her mommy and daddy are so happy when she smiles at them. In fact, the first time she smiled at me I started to cry because I was so happy. Here is a video that I took that shows her giving a little smile. It makes my day to watch it. Enjoy.

Good News

On Monday, Patrick and I had gone and looked at a house to buy. We had seen pictures of it online and it looked really great. We talked to our realtor and he told us that there were already offers on it, but we wanted to see it anyway. After seeing it in person, we decided that we wanted to make an offer, just to see if we could get it. Today we found out that the bank accepted our offer for the house and we are moving forward with the purchase!

We are so excited... and a little scared... We know that this is a great time for us to buy and we are so happy with the house, but it is a big purchase and a little intimidating! So, hopefully sometime next month we will be moving into our new home!

House Hunting

The fall of real estate prices has many people unhappy, however Patrick and I couldn't be happier about it! This means that buying a house would be cheaper than us paying rent in an apartment! It is also the perfect time, since our lease is up and we will be moving anyway! We are so excited by this and are looking at houses trying to find one that we like.

Tomorrow morning we are going to look at a house that seems like it would be perfect! We will probably have to keep looking, but it is still exciting to know that we are working toward owning a home. I didn't think this would come for a while and here it is. My life seems to be moving in fast forward. I love it!

Sickness Update

So, the last line of the most recent blog said, "I hope this goes away as quickly as it came," speaking of Joslyn being sick. Well, she seems to be doing MUCH better. She isn't all stuffed up anymore and she looks so much better. So, my hope for her to recover quickly was answered! Thank goodness.

Rainy, Sick Days

When we woke up this morning, it was raining outside. I LOVE the rain and am always excited when it decides to show up. It doesn't happen often here in Phoenix, which might be why I still love it!

I also love that it has lowered the temperatures. We are in the 60's now, instead of the 80's. What could be better then cuddling with your baby in the cold, rainy weather? Oh, I know. If your little baby wasn't sick.

Poor Joslyn has her first cold. She sounds just horrible, all conjested. I wish there was something I could do for her, but she is too young for any medication. All I can do is prop up her mattress and use her nasal aspirator. It makes me sad to listen to her stuffed up breathing. Poor girl. I hope this goes away as quickly as it came.

Half-Hearted Valentine Cookies

This is a recipe that we have made in our family for several years now. These cookies are super yummy!!

Cookies:
3/4 c. sugar
1 c. butter, softened
1 (3oz.)pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 egg
1 tsp. peppermint extract
3 c. flour

Glaze:
1 c. semi-sweet real chocolate chips
1/4 c. butter

For cookies: In large mixer bowl, combine sugar, butter, cream cheese, egg and peppermint extract. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until light and fluffy. Add flour; beat until mixed. Divide dough into halves. Wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out with floured heart-shaped cutters. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes or until edges are very lightly browned. Remove immediately; cool completely on wire racks.

For glaze: In small saucepan, melt chocolate and butter, stirring occasionally, over low heat until melted, 4 to 6 minutes. Dip half of each heart into chocolate. Refrigerate on waxed paper-lined cookie sheet until chocolate is firm. Store, covered, in refrigerator.

Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies.

Legos

At my parent's house yesterday, Patrick was playing legos with my neice and nephew. I went over to see what they were building and this is what I found Patrick making.

The Boppy

My sister-in-law Allison made me a boppy to help with feeding Joslyn. Its a u-shaped pillow that goes around your waist to hold the baby up a little higher for easier feeding. The other night,Patrick found a different use for the boppy...

Free Breakfast

I was so excited to hear that Denny's was giving away free grand slams today. I was even more excited when I realized that Patrick had the day off too! I told him that we needed to go and get our free breakfasts. Patrick of course said yes because a FREE breakfast is Patrick's favorite kind!

So, after getting Joslyn fed and ready to go, we headed to the restaurant. The line was out the door and they said it was about an hour wait. If it had been just Patrick and me, I would have just waited, but with little Joslyn, I didn't want to wait in the sun.

Luckily, I suggested that we go to the other Denny's near our house and see what the wait was there. I expected the similar time frame, but luckily we could wait inside. So, we put our names down and waited. The wait wasn't near as long as we had been told. It was only half an hour later that they were seating us.

Since they already knew what we were ordering, they only asked us what we wanted to drink and how we wanted our eggs. We were in and out of the restaurant in about 50 minutes. Not too bad, considering the amount of people there to eat.

First Bath

Last Friday was Joslyn's first real bath. She cried the whole time. Patrick took a short video of that bath. My favorite part of the whole experience was when after taking Joss's diaper off. Patrick tells her that this is a "no potty time". It wasn't 30 seconds later that she is peeing all over the floor. Patrick's face was so funny.
