Hawaii Trip- Day 1
So now that I am all caught up on my blog, I can post about our fabulous adventures on Oahu! I know that you are all so excited to here all the awesome details. So, get ready!
Day one started off with us waking up about 10 minutes later than we wanted to wake up. Luckily, it was only ten minutes and we were pretty well packed up and ready to go anyway.
Our flight left at 8am which meant that we had to leave our house at 6am at the latest to get there on time. Thankfully, my brother-in-law, Nathan, agreed to take us to the airport and we made it there in plenty of time to check our bags, go through security, make sure that Joslyn went potty and get to our seats.
Joss really liked pulling our carry-on through the airport.
Because our flight was leaving so early and with the three hour time change, we wanted to make sure the kids got as much sleep as possible. So we decided to leave the house without breakfast and eat on the plane. I made the mistake of bringing pop-tarts. I forgot how messy a squished pop-tart is with a little boy, but the kids both enjoyed them.
Joss has been talking about getting to ride on an airplane for months now. She was so excited when she got to see our plane. And she giggled our entire ascent and descent. Seth started crying before we even took off. Luckily, he didn't cry the entire flight. Once we let him play with the ipad or Patrick's phone he did much better and about half way into the flight he fell asleep.
Joss stayed awake the entire time and she actually did really well the entire flight, with no bathroom accidents too! We stuffed our diaper bag full of things to do hoping to entertain our two kids for the whole 6 hour flight.
We brought a new puzzle, a magnetic fishing game, a new coloring book and crayons, a new toy plane, alphabet flashcards, snacks, and a few other things.
My mom was wonderful and made Joss and Seth a toy to help them learn how to button and un-button clothes. It is a ribbon with a square of felt sewn on one end and a button on the other end. You then have tons of felt squares with "button holes" cut into them. Joss really enjoyed putting all the squares on the ribbon.
The kids both loved getting to play with the ipad and that was pretty much the only thing that kept Seth from crying and trying to run away.
When the flight was done, we had to get our bag and the car seats for the kids. For some reason, the baggage claim was across the entire airport, or maybe we took the long way, but it was such a pain. After we got every thing it was time to take the shuttle bus to get a rental car. Joss was so excited to get to ride the bus. She has heard all semester about how daddy rides the bus to and from school and she would finally get to ride on a bus herself. We of course had to sing "The Wheels on the Bus"!
Once we got our rental car, it was time to drive to Hickam Air Force Base. We were staying with my sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Kristi, who live on base. The kids both crashed in the 10 minutes it took us to drive there.
After getting our visitor passes, we went to the Burger King on base because we were starving. And I was ridiculously cranky because of it. Mike was so excited to show us their high-definition menu screens and the spam on the menu.
Once I got some food in my tummy, I felt much better and we went to Kristi and Mike's house to relax for a bit. Joss loved getting to play fruit ninja on the kinect. And we all loved getting to play with little Hayden.
We all ended up in bed pretty early because of the long day and the time change.
