Baby Food

I have been debating with myself about making baby food for Joslyn. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to do. You just cook the food and then mash it up. You can even freeze it for the month.

On the other hand, the store bought food is a lot easier because, well, you don't have to make it. It also doesn't need to be refrigerated so it is easier for our "on the go" days. I'm just not sure.

So I was wondering; Do any of you who have had babies have any advice for a novice mother?

Go for it! It's not too hard, is a lot less expensive, and I think it probably tastes better. Grace really didn't like the store bought stuff, but loved the homemade.

making homemade is easy, plus you get a variety of whateer you want. But I would still buy some premade stuff when it's on sale, so you have it when you're in a hurry or you need it on the go

I make my own babyfood, except I don't make sweet potatoes or squash because I don't want to. But, everything else I make and Cali loves it. (Oh, and I just buy a big jar of unsweetened applesauce because it's pretty cheap)

I say make it, if you can. Like Allison said it totally tastes better than the store bought stuff.

You can buy some jarred stuff for when you are out, if you want, but things like a banana or avocado are really portable and easy to peel and mash.

Or you could just get an insulated lunch box thing and put your frozen or refrigerated food in that.

You should come over some time and we should make a 3 month supply of baby food (at 9 months the ped will tell you she can eat table food).

My post sounds like I totally know what I'm talking about, doesn't it? It's almost like my kids were all fed homemade stuff, when really only Matt got some.

Amanda, we should totally do that. I was thinking we should make freeze jam together too. And any others that want to could probably do it as well. I am willing to open my kitchen if needed.

I just made some freezer jam. I'm waiting for peaches and strawberries to go on sale again to make more.

I just wanted you to know that it's really not recommended to start solid foods before your baby is 6 months old. Check out this site, it has a lot of info: http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/delay-solids.html

When Ethan was 4 months, we started him on the baby cereals. At 5 months we started mixing in some of the jarred baby food with it. And by 6 months, I just made my own. Especially when the babies are able to handle foods just mashed - it's so simple. I would just take out a banana or avocado (or whatever) and mash it right then.
Hopes this helps!
